How it looks on Google
Limits follow Google Ads Help for responsive search ads. Headlines are measured in 20px Arial on a roughly 600px desktop line and two lines on mobile, the same figures the SERP simulator uses. Google picks the combination it shows, so treat this as the range of what can appear.
How to use this Google Ads preview
01
Write your assets
Add headlines and descriptions one per line. Each gets a live count against Google's 30 and 90 character limits.
02
See the ad
Preview it on desktop and mobile, with the Sponsored label, your business name and display path, measured in pixels.
03
Shuffle combinations
Step through the headline and description pairings Google might show, then copy every asset with its character count.
Thirty characters is not a fixed width
Google Ads checks your headlines against a character limit, but the results page lays them out by width. On desktop, up to three headlines share one line of roughly 600 pixels, so three 30-character headlines in wide letters will not all fit, and Google shows fewer. Knowing which combinations fit tells you which headlines can carry your message on their own.
This preview measures headlines in 20px Arial, the same way the SERP simulator measures organic titles, so your ad and your organic listing are judged on the same ruler. Advertising in ChatGPT as well? Mock up that placement with the ChatGPT ad simulator.
Everything runs in your browser and never connects to Google Ads.
Common questions
Each headline can be 30 characters and each description 90 characters. You can add up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, and Google Ads needs at least 3 headlines and 2 descriptions to run the ad. The two display path fields allow 15 characters each. Characters in double-width languages such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean count as 2.
Up to three headlines and two descriptions at a time, picked from the assets you supply. Google tests combinations and shows fewer when the space is tight: on desktop the headlines share a single line of roughly 600 pixels, so three long headlines often become two. Use the shuffle button to step through combinations.
The 30-character limit decides what Google Ads will accept, but pixel width decides what fits on the results page. Thirty characters of wide capitals take far more room than thirty of narrow lowercase letters. This preview measures in the same 20px Arial that the SERP simulator uses for Google titles, so you can see which combinations fit.
The two optional path fields add words after your domain in the ad's web address, such as example.com › tools › free. They do not have to exist on your site; they show people what the page is about. Each holds up to 15 characters.
No. Google's tool shows whether a live ad is serving for a search. This preview is for writing: it shows how your headlines, descriptions and paths render before the ad exists, flags anything over the limits, and lets you try combinations. Nothing is sent to Google.
